	General Information:

	The temple was built in the year 710 A D by Nusa Chola. This is witness to the Chola temple architecture. The sculptures in the temple are marble soft.

	Greatness Of Temple:

	Temples are generally built with stone pillars. The construction of this temple is different with bricks. The lime pastings on the western side of the brick structures had fallen down and are in ruins. It is of an arch shape. Though a good evidence of temple architecture with beautiful sculptures, pujas are not conducted properly due to the bad condition of the temple. The temple has many inscriptions in Krantha letters on the outer wall of the sanctum sanctorum. They contain details of contributions by many for the maintenance of the temple. Mothers Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi had worshipped Lord Kailasanathar in this temple. There is a sculpture carved in a pillar depicting Sage Agasthya worshipping Lord Shiva. Daily pujas are done here. The temple complex is covered by thorny bushes and partheneum plants. The peetas bearing the deities, pillars, wooden doors of the temple are very much damaged. There are only signs that Kodimaram-flag post and Vahan shelters that once existed in the temple. Villagers are conducting one time puja in the temple. The rare art treasures of the temple could be saved if devotees join together in a renovation project.

	Temple History:

	Lord Agasthya, taking the command of Lord Shiva came to South to balance earth level affected by the huge crowd at North end on the occasion of Shiva-Parvathi wedding. The sage worshipped at many Shiva temples on the way including this Tirumoolasthanam Kailasanathar temple. There is a shrine here showing the sage worshipping Lord Shiva.
